Puppies are adorable, playful, and sometimes a little overwhelming! These early months are crucial for building their confidence, teaching good manners, and creating a strong bond between you and your new best friend.

Whether this is your first puppy or your fifth, my goal is to make these first steps together enjoyable, educational, and stress-free - for both of you.

As your puppy coach, I’m here to make sure you and your puppy get off on the right paw. My Puppy course is designed to guide you through this exciting (and sometimes chaotic) phase with expert advice tailored to your puppy’s needs. From house training to socialisation and everything in between, I will teach you the most important skills your puppy needs for a lifetime of happiness and good behaviour.

The course is structured into five lessons of 1 hour each:

  • Lesson 1 will take place at home, ideally within a few days after the puppy has joined the household. The focus on this lesson is to cover the basics; we will talk about dog behaviour and communication, how and when to use the crate, housebreaking your puppy and how to play together. You’ll also receive a puppy lesson book with everything we cover and a socialisation checklist to track your pup’s progress.
  • Lesson 2 to 4 are outdoor lessons and they take place at the Amsterdamse Bos. This is a great training ground for your puppy, as there are always joggers, bicycles and other dogs. It's a highly stimulating environment and there will be a lot for us to do: practice recall (how to get your puppy to come back when called), observe dog interactions, prevent issues like chasing joggers, jumping on people, etc.
  • Lesson 5 will also take place at the Amsterdamse Bos, but a few months later, when your puppy has entered puberty (yes, dogs have it too!) and you experience that their obedience or stubbornness are becoming a problem. We'll address them together and get you back on track. At the end of the fifth lesson, you’ll receive a certificate of completion - and, of course, a happy, well-adjusted puppy.

During and in between the lessons, you are welcome to ask any questions you may have and to clarify any of your doubts.

Practical information

To start the Puppy course, the dog needs to be between 2 and 6 months old. Ideally the first lesson would be within a few days after the adoption. Lesson 2 will take place once the dog is fully vaccinated. Lessons 1 to 4 will be spread out over a period of roughly 12 to 16 weeks (but it may be shorter depending on the puppy's age at the start of the course). Lesson 5 will take place during puberty.

The meeting point in the Amsterdamse Bos is Parkeerplaats Duizendmeterweg.

Training a puppy is about more than just teaching commands - it’s about building trust and understanding how dogs learn. My methods are based on positive reinforcement, which means rewarding good behavior to encourage more of it.

Every puppy is different, and so are the challenges they bring. I take a customised approach, considering your puppy’s breed, personality, and unique quirks, while ensuring the training fits into your lifestyle.

Consistency, patience, and plenty of encouragement are at the heart of my approach. Puppies thrive when their owners feel confident, so I’ll empower you with the knowledge and tools to handle any puppy-sized curveballs that come your way.

Lesson 1

The first lesson takes place at home. This lesson focuses on establishing daily routines for feeding, play, and rest; crate training and house training techniques to prevent accidents; encouraging independence to avoid future separation anxiety; addressing common issues like chewing or jumping.

Lesson 2, 3 and 4

Lessons 2, 3 and 4 will take place at the Amsterdamse Bos, where we will introduce your puppy to new sights, sounds, and experiences. Here your puppy will walk off leash, socialise with other dogs, learn how to keep track of where you are, learn to ignore joggers, cyclists and other people, and come back when you call.

Lesson 5

This lesson also takes place at the Amsterdamse Bos, and it will be scheduled when your puppy hits puberty and there is a relapse in their behaviour. This is the last lesson, after which you and your puppy will receive a diploma!
